Missed the boat (tree)

December 16, 2022

For some people, including a couple of my friends, Christmas pretty much starts on December 1. (Unlike shops where it seems to begin at the end of October.) Not me. I don’t really get into the holiday spirit until at least mid-December. As much as I enjoy decorating a Christmas tree, it seldom goes up until a week before the day in question.

This year I blew it. When I went the other day to the one place on the island that is selling trees this year there were none left – and they have no plans to get more. So I’ve missed the Christmas tree boat.

During my walk with Georgie and Joe yesterday I noticed that someone had taken it upon themselves to add some decorations to a small tree in the woods.

This, it seems, is as close as I am going to get to a Christmas tree this year. I can’t even go out in the woods with Dave’s saw as I have a couple of times in the past to help myself, as he’s away. Which makes me quite sad.

Oh, and just to rub salt in the wound, I’ve just gone on Facebook where one of the memories thrown up was of the tree acquired from the woods five years ago.

Oh, well. (I suppose.) I may not have a tree this year for the first year in as long as I can remember, but I can still have the Frangelico hot chocolate and a slice of Irmani’s wonderful Christmas cake. Still.
