Pas demain

January 17, 2022

Yes, I know it’s not demain aujourd’hui. Nor was it demain hier. Demain c’était il y a trois jours. And, in case you’re wondering, the last thing I wrote three days ago was “À demain”. Which obviously didn’t happen for a variety of reasons, not least I simply couldn’t face writing anything until I somehow managed to actually Get Something Done.

Getting anything done has proved challenging in recent weeks. But yesterday I managed it.

I have a sweet little Deco cabinet that’s been downstairs in the guest room for a very long time, serving no purpose whatsoever. For quite a long time I’ve been thinking it would be nice to get it upstairs to replace the book case upon which the stereo sits.

Especially since I had a clear out of DVDs and videos some months ago. I know they say you shouldn’t rush these big jobs, but it had been months. Yesterday I finally got my shit together.

There, now, isn’t that lovely? (Correct answer is yes, it is.)

And I had a perfectly good use for the Ikea bookcase which the Deco cabinet replaced.

Finally somewhere to put all my shoes. Bonus!

Not only that! Yesterday was also the first time since the end of December that I got my shit together and had a proper Sunday dinner – at the table with a guest writer.

Okay, crab cakes and salad isn’t a lot of effort, but it’s the sitting at the table that counts, isn’t it?

As for the book, I know people raved about Where the Crawdads Sing when it came out, but I’ve been resistant. Then one of the Bad Girls picked it as our February read, so I didn’t have a choice. The first couple of pages left me thinking, ‘Hmm. Not sure about this.’ But that didn’t last long and now I’m loving it.

So… A job I knew wouldn’t take much more than an hour (but put off for god knows how long) finally sorted. Plus all my shoes in one accessible place, rather than tossed in a pile on the closet floor. And dinner at the table with a good book and a good glass of wine.

Yes, that definitely counts as Getting Something Done.

À demain.
