manly men

A big thank you to manly men Joe, Ray and Dave. Instead of it taking me four days to load two cords of wood into the shed, it took the four of us an hour. (Bonus manly points to Joe for also splitting some of the bigger pieces of arbutus.)

Unfortunately Operation Wood Stacking was not without incident. Less than five minutes after we started, I managed to smash one of my fingers between two pieces of arbutus. Hurt like hell at the time and still hurts like hell.

Hmm. Cuticles could do with some attention. Maybe after the huge blood blister goes away.

Said huge and extremely painful blood blister is making it hard to type. It’s also going to make it impossible to do the job I’d planned for today: getting up on the roof to sweep off pine needles, scrape off moss, clean the skylights and clear the eavestroughs. This is an annual August job. How is it possible there are only two days of August left? Well, it’s going to have to be a September job this year, as it seems “the best treatment for a blood blister is to let it heal on its own over a few weeks.” Argh. Hopefully in a few days it will be less bloody painful.

For now, I really do need to stop typing. Ouch, ouch, ouch.

I think the only sensible idea is to spend the afternoon on the garden swing with my book (Trickster Drift by Eden Robinson). Yes, that does sound like a plan.
