Give me strength
It’s taken two and a half hours to reach the point where I can type these words. When I switched on the computer on this morning (yes, it was still morning then), there was a notice about a Windows update that I could not cancel, so I gave up and allowed it to restart the computer, which took forever. When it was done updating, half the programs including Word didn’t work. Restarted it again. Still didn’t work properly. Third time lucky? God, I hope so.
Three facts must be faced.
One, technology is not my friend. (Is it really anyone’s?)
Two, this computer really is on its last legs. Not just slow as molasses, but shuffling off this mortal coil.
Three, despite the fact that I really can’t afford to do so, I’m going to have to replace it. Oh, for my tech savvy mate Neale (now living in Australia) to come with me to look at options.
I’m sure it will all be lovely when I have a new laptop that actually functions (you know, speakers that work, a battery that takes a charge, things like that) and operates at a speed more rapid than a snail, but right now I just want to scream.
And that’s it for today. I have things to do (assuming the computer can keep going for a couple of hours) and places to go.
Oh, and FYI, there will be no post tomorrow.
Yes, yes, I know. I swore I would write something every day for six weeks beginning on September 1, but there is going to be an all day power outage tomorrow for some system upgrades, so you’re going to have to let me off the hook. Promise to keep posting until October 13 to make up for the missed day.
Man I feel you. I bought my ol’ laptop in 2006. I live in dread of the day I have to replace it. Who has that kind of money? – not me! Meantime, it limps along, no longer able to open a facebook picture, dead speakers, dead disc drive, can only use firefox and even then can’t do many sites, can’t be upgraded because the hardware won’t support any newer software. But it’s not dead yet.
