Bad girls to the rescue again
How is it possible that it’s the middle of July and, as of yesterday, I had not once spent any time reading on the garden swing? I really don’t know, but sadly it’s the truth.
Well, thanks to the Bad Girls Book Club that ridiculous oversight has been rectified.
An email this morning reminds me that our current book is due back at the library in two days. I was making good progress, but there was no way I was going to finish it in two days without some serious dedicated reading.
And so, after breakfast this morning I decided to hell with all the other jobs I could have been doing today. Instead, I took my cappuccino and said book down to the garden, stretched out on the swing and started to read.
I was hoping Stella would join me, as she often has in summers past. Sadly, although she circled the swing a few times and mewed at me, she seems to have forgotten how this is supposed to work: me on the swing and her on the back cushion, purring and dribbling on me. Obviously I need to spend a lot more time on the swing to jog her memory.
Three and a half hours later I’d finished the book. In case you can’t read the cover, the book is A Man Called Ove by Frederik Backman. It was one of the first book sets our newly formed book club ordered from the library last year. It took fifteen months for us to receive our set.
I’m so glad it finally arrived. I bloody loved this book. Especially the cat. Don’t let that put you off. You’ll understand if you read it – which you should.
Yes, there are a lot of outdoor jobs that need to be done. But there is also a tall pile of books beside my bed that need to be read.
Ove would firmly believe that the jobs should take priority. I’m not sure I agree.
