And the horse you rode in on

The shit show that is the freedumb convoy just gets better and better. (Worse and worse.) If it was shocking last weekend to see Confederate and Nazi flags in Ottawa – this is Canada, eh? – by Saturday it was no surprise to see this.

Yes, some cowboy riding down the street with a Wankmaggot flag. The Make Canada Stupid campaign continues. Meanwhile, the citizens of the nation’s capital are being driven more and more insane by fireworks in the middle of the night and the noise and pollution of all these dumb asses running their engines 24/7 to stay warm at night.

We already knew that much of the $10 million raised in a Go Fund Me campaign started by a Canadian right wing nut job came from the US. After releasing $1 million dollars, Go Fund Me shut the thing down, offering all donors a refund. That was on Friday. Before you could say “Phew” some crazy US “Christian” fundraising site had taken up the cause. As of this morning the site has raised nearly US$5 million. The home page also offers a chance to “Adopt a Trucker”.

And squeezed in between you can also donate to the legal defence fund of one of the Wankmaggot’s big lie lawyers. Ugh.

Also on the home page is this proud statement.

I’ll give you $5 if you can show me where in the bible it suggests that Jesus would want his followers to support a group of selfish, whingeing wingnuts who refuse to do the most basic thing they could (get vaccinated) to protect others.

After my post last week about the aforementioned racist flags in Ottawa, a blogger from south of the border left this comment: “Are these flags the norm? All we see in the US is homemade signs of dissent, and TONS OF CANADIAN FLAGS? Does Trudeau realize how tone deaf it is to refuse to even meet with the truckers? Leaders who shun labor don’t usually lengthen their careers in public service. Truly, I just don’t get what he’s so afraid of?”

To this blogger I say: Why the hell should he meet them? The vast majority of Canadians agree with this statement he made last week.

And as also he pointed out last week, we had an election last year in which the vast majority of (fully vaccinated) Canadians voted for parties, including his, who fully endorse the government’s policy on vaccinations, mandates and passports. Oh, and while the mandate that unvaccinated truckers who cross the US border must self-isolate for 14 days might be a federal edict, almost all the Covid-related restrictions to which they object, such as requiring a vaccine passport to eat in a restaurant or go to the gym are provincial. So why the fuck are they camped out and wreaking havoc in Ottawa?

Well, to be fair (as it were) they aren’t all in Ottawa. Last weekend also saw freedumb rallies in many other Canadian cities. 

The only thing amusing about these “protests” was learning that in Vancouver trucks made it 2km down Terminal Avenue before the road was blocked by cyclists and pedestrians, forcing the drivers – with police assistance – to reverse away.

I also liked Vancouver mayor Kennedy Stewart’s response to a typically idiotic Ted Cruz tweet.

To the 90% of drivers who’ve done (and continue to do) the right thing I say keep on trucking. Most of the unvaccinated 10% have opted to simply not take work that involves crossing the US border. I wish you would get vaccinated for your sake, the sake of your loved ones and people you don’t even know, but still I say to you – thanks for not being a complete pain in the ass. And to the wanker minority of the minority I say (what else?) fuck you and the horse (or truck) you rode in on.
