Twenty-four hours to go

January 19, 2021

I woke up this morning with the opening lyrics of a Ramones song in my head: “Twenty twenty twenty four hours to go. I wanna be sedated.”

It’s not that I really want to be sedated. I just wish I could skip a day and wake up tomorrow at 12:01pm when the Tangerine Wankmaggot is no longer president of the United States.

I wish I could say the nightmare will be over then, but if we learnt nothing else on January 6 it is that the MAGA heads are not going to go gently into that good night.

Washington doesn’t just look like a heavily armed fortress. It is one. Fences erected and soldiers patrolling the streets to protect the incoming president and vice-president from rabid mobs. Protection against “all enemies – foreign or domestic.” Sheesh.

Meanwhile inside the Capitol building, metal detectors have been installed which members are required to pass through before entering the House chamber. A sensible precaution, you say? Well, yes.

Well, no, not if you’re Lauren Bloefield (or whatever her name is) of Colorado, one of the two 100%-died-in-the-wool-QAnon supporters elected to the House of Representatives in November. Along with Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Boebert (yes, I do actually know her name) is all in with Q.

Boebert, who refused to go through the metal detectors and demands some imagined right to carry a gun into the chamber, has also been accused by more than one Representative of leading tours of Wankmaggot supporters through the Capitol Building the day before the invasion.

I don’t get it. Georgia elected two Democratic senators. Colorado ousted its Republican senator, replacing him with a second Democrat. How can the same voters choose these wingnuts to represent them?

Actually I do get it. Unlike two-per-state senators (who are elected on a state-wide ballot), representatives are doled out based on population districts. Colorado has seven (three Republicans and four democrats). Boebert was elected in District 3, which is one of the largest in the country and is pretty much all rural.

Ah, yes. Rural versus urban. It can’t all be down to religion, as a huge percentage of urban Yanks go to church every week. Is the quality of public education so much worse in rural areas than urban? Does that explain how citizens can reach voting age knowing next to nothing? It seems unlikely. Perhaps there’s just too much home schooling, parents passing on and ingraining their prejudices against and suspicion of The Other. Whatever it is, these are the voters (or at least 51.4% of them) who’ve given the United States a new gun-mad nutjob in the House of Representatives.

Never mind installing metal detectors at the doors of the chamber. They need to install frigging mental detectors.

“Do you truly believe the will of the people is being subverted by a cabal of baby-eating, Satan-worshipping paedophiles operating out of the basement of a pizzeria? You do? Sorry, you can’t go in.”

“Do you truly believe, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that Canadian-manufactured voting machines, controlled by the ghost of Hugo Chavez, stole the Presidential election? You do? Sorry, you can’t go in.”

That would clear the house chamber of a lot of madness. (And the senate of a few.)

Unfortunately it would do nothing about these people.

How is it possible to be able to stand and talk when you are so completely brain dead?

I know calling someone a fucking moron isn’t supposed to help and for four years I tried not to do so. But faced with the fact that nearly 10 million more people voted for the Wankmaggot in 2020 than voted for him in 2016, I’ve given up trying. They are fucking morons.

Twenty twenty twenty four hours to go.

I’ve tried really hard for over four years not to call Brexit voters morons, as it’s not helpful in trying to have a conversation with them. I failed and now happily confront them with the various options they have for a lobotomy either with the NHS or with private medical providers. Perhaps a fund should be set up through the WHO for Trump supporters who need similar help?
