Kafka would be proud

I am in Facebook hell.

Back in March, on Women’s Day, I posted a link on my “professional” Facebook page to a rant I wrote a few years ago about the ongoing plight of women. There were multiple photos in the piece, out of which Facebook arbitrarily decided to pull up the final one – of a young girl about to be subjected to female genital mutilation. Within minutes I had a message from Facebook informing me that the post had been deleted because it appeared to contain child pornography. I was further informed that if I did nothing the entire account would be deleted. I thought I had communicated the misunderstanding, but apparently I failed – or they simply did not look at the original material as I had requested.

Today I received this message.

“Best regards?” Oh, puh-leeze. I tried clicking on the link. Multiple steps later I ended up on this page.

Success?!?! There is NOTHING ELSE TO CLICK ON. There is no way to access any information on requesting a “review of a threatened deletion”. There is no such category on their so-called “help” page. There is, of course, no phone number, no email address. If I decided to write them a letter (which I will, for whatever the hell that’s worth), my Facebook page will be gone before the envelope arrives in Menlo Park. (Assuming that is an actual address.)

Oh, and… My personal Facebook account, to which the Anne M. Holmes page is attached, will be flagged as a likely source of child pornography!
