Words fail me

November 26, 2023

Literally. Well, not these words. They’re okay. They were okay yesterday when I was writing about tossing and turning in bed. These words are okay.

After I posted yesterday’s pillow pics (with accompanying words), I opened the file with the play. Looked at it and looked at it, then decided perhaps I would attempt Wordle first.

When Wordle became a huge thing a year or so ago, a friend on the island started a Facebook page where we could post our results for the day. Before I have my own go I often check to see how others have done. Yesterday seemed to be a four day for many people, so I was quite pleased with myself when I got a three.

I’m pretty good with word games. (One of my many beefs with Facebook is the removal of the Scrabble games you could have with friends.) I’m okay with these words, as my stats suggest.

Checking them just now I was surprised to see I’ve managed 20 twos. Seems like a much rare occurrence. And, yes, an actual one – one of my regular starter words paid off one day.

Anyway… Did my Wordle, looked at the play again. Oh, wait, there was an email I should send. Did that, looked at the play again. Oh, maybe I should do the Guardian crossword puzzle. Did that, looked at the play again. Well, maybe one game of spider solitaire. Ha bloody ha. Played spider solitaire for hours.

The annoying thing is, if I really wasn’t going to come up with a single new word for the play, there were plenty of things I could be doing during those hours, any one of which might have given me some sense of accomplishment. Yet somehow I convinced myself that, if I walked away from the computer I would officially be giving up on getting any writing done. Ha bloody ha. I’d already given up when I decided to have “just one” game.

Well, here we are. Word count as of this second is 350. Do I have any other words today? Is there any chance of adding to the play? We’ll see.

Think I’ll do Wordle first.
