Kitchen luminescence
A lot of thought apparently went into it. Trying to decide on a colour that would work well with the wooden cupboards, granite countertops and slate floor. An earth tone to tie it all together. And, yeah, I guess if you were looking for an earth tone, this would seem to fit the bill.
Would you call this “brick red”? Hmm. You could try, but wouldn’t “rust” be more accurate?
Oh, don’t tell us another room has changed colour! Well, yes it has.
I have a friend, Scott, who is a painter/decorator. He’s hung up his brushes and rollers, taken early retirement, sold his house and is preparing to launch himself on the next big adventure of his life with his lover and soulmate. I didn’t think I could talk him out of retirement, but I was hoping he would be willing to come to the house, have a look at the kitchen and give us a sense of what a reasonably quote would be for painting. He said sure. When it came to it, he announced that, yes, he was – for us – willing to come out of retirement for one last job.
I spent Monday afternoon shifting things off the counters, unscrewing plug covers and up on a ladder, scouring the tops of the cupboards, which, it was estimated, had not been done since the house was built. All to get ready for Scott.
I didn’t take this photo. I wasn’t there at the time. But when this and the following photos were sent to me, I was bouncing with joy. When I saw Scott after he’d finished, he told me he thought the colour was amazing. “It’s luminescent,” he said. Cool.
Oh My God, just look at the difference.
I made my way over after I’d taken Dexter for his Monday afternoon walk. I cannot tell you how happy this made me.
Now all the kitchen needs is some flamingos. Okay, maybe just one.
