Number two

August 18, 2025

One of the things that happens when you get yourself involved with an artist is you end up going to a lot more art shows.

These are things I generally avoid because there’s always something I would love to buy and I never have the funds to make the purchase. But, you know, he knows most of the artists on the island and many of them came out for his show last month.

So, you know, as well as wanting to support them, he wants to see what they’re up to, so we go to shows.

Most of the pieces in last weekend’s gallery show were too rich for my blood. Even if they weren’t, this is no time to be buying art. This is the time to be trying to figure out how we can reduce art. Nevertheless, there was one piece that was really quite affordable, that we knew a friend of ours would love.

Yes, I’m sure you can plainly see “Honey Bear” (name of the piece), but can you spot Mama?

Away from the gallery, a fellow glass working friend had opened her studio up for the weekend. Would have been rude not to pop in and say hello.

And there it was – the irresistible piece.

What may not be obvious is the fact that the clear circle is actually a camera lens. Absolutely fantastic effect when you move your head side to side to peer at what’s outside.

“I love this piece,” I said after I’d done just that for several seconds.

“Yeah?” he said. “Me, too.”

We now have a second jointly purchased piece of art to add to the first.

I suspect there will be many more.

God knows where we’ll put them.
