Bullseye!

October 27, 2024

A while ago I helped a friend paint a room he planned to use as (amongst other things) his darts room.

This was a favour in return for him helping me bury the pipe from the well into the house in the hope that said pipe will not freeze again this winter.

Since then I’ve been over a few times to play darts – the game of choice being Cricket, not 501.

Now, here’s the thing with darts and me. (I know I’ve already told the Ray Davies story, so I won’t repeat it here.) As a rule, my aim usually begins to improve when I’m starting my third pint of bitter. Before that it’s pretty hit or (more often) miss.

Last night I did win the first game, but only because I accidentally got three bullseyes whilst aiming (badly) at other things earlier in the game. I got clobbered in the second game. Then we came to game three.

You really can’t play darts without drinking beer, can you? That being an accepted fact, he’d bought some cans of Fat Tug. It’s a nice beer, but it does have a pretty high alcohol content. So, after I’d finished my first, when he asked if I wanted another one, I said I’d just split one with him. Now I don’t know if a can and a half of Fat Tug is the equivalent of two pints of bitter and the first couple of sips of a third, but…

My turn and this was the score. We both needed three bullseyes. And this is what I somehow managed to throw.

Yes! First dart – double bull. Second dart – more what I’d been expecting to throw. Third dart – single bull! So, yes, of course I had to take a picture.

Here’s a close up.

Still can’t believe it.
