Theatre and other news

November 19, 2023

Well, the play was fun. Not sure what I was expecting, if anything, but it wasn’t that. Not so much Monty Python as a two-man, theatre of the absurd semi-panto, which involved hauling four people out of the audience as extra characters. This (being pulled out of the audience) can be fun. I was that “volunteer” once at a Lucas Myers show.

Much more fun (as I found myself thinking) than being in the first few rows of a Dame Edna show back in the 1980s when anyone near the stage could face a barbed comment.

Anyway, a fun afternoon at the theatre, followed by a shop at a grocery store in town to try to find some of the things I like which the island grocery store has ceased to carry. Ferry screw up meant I got home later than I’d planned. No sign of it departing at 6:15 as it was supposed to do. Another foot passenger (who’s on the ferry advisory committee) pointed out that it was a refuelling time and also the dinner break for the ferry workers. Interesting information, I agreed, but how did it explain why it was leaving late when it had been sitting there for nearly an hour. He had to confess that this he did not know. Annoying, but also a reminder of why I am glad I hardly ever leave the island.

In other news, there’s a bathroom update.

Clearly all the pee pads were doing were doing was encouraging Stellas to continue peeing on the floor between the litter box and the toilet, simply serving to mop up the pee so it didn’t seep into the cracks between the tiles. And, whilst I was prepared to pay 50 cents for every time she peed, I was not prepared to create so much plastic waste for every pee. There only seemed to be one option: if Stella would not go to the box to pee, the box had to go where she’d decided she wanted it.

Not ideal, but it works. Guess I’ll just have to take my chances when and if I have visitors.

With the play over and nothing concrete looming on the horizon, I am going to try to get back to writing something every day. I can’t promise it will be anything more enthralling than litter box updates, but I’m going to give it a go.
