Spot the difference

August 21, 2023

You can’t? (Other than the sun being on the garden in one photo and not the other?) Doesn’t matter, because I can. I’ve just spent three hours getting rid of all the fir needles and cones – a job that needed doing. And not doing it was keeping me off the garden swing.

Pat on the back for me for doing something smart this year. I put the cherry tomato plants back in pots, instead of planting them in the ground. This means I can actually give them enough water and they can give me enough tomatoes.

This one in particular just gives and gives. Must remember which type it is so I can look out for another one (or two) next year.

I also put the courgettes in pots, rather than in the ground and I am being rewarded.

One yellow courgette (so far).

And one green one (so far). This may not seem like many, but it is two more than I got last year.

Elsewhere, the peas are pretty much done (must plant more for the autumn), but the pole beans are still producing and, based on past experience, probably will continue to do so into October.

Most of the lettuce are pretty tiny, but tasty.

I have given up completely on the framed berry bed.

Not a single fucking berry from any of them. No more wasting valuable water. Will need to have a rethink next year.

And now it’s time to grab my book and head down to the swing.

I cannot tell you how pleased I am to report that after farting around with family drama novels, Adrian McKinty has finally brought back Sean Duffy. And it’s fab.
