Back in the woods
I haven’t been for a walk – a proper walk – since poor Georgie went on the disabled list back in June. Or was it May? She and Joe are in Winnipeg at the moment and have been for several weeks. She’s had her surgery and seems to be recovering well, although the ball will need to be retired and she won’t be going on any two hour walks for the foreseeable.
Every night for some time now I’ve told myself before I go to bed that tomorrow I will go for a walk in the woods. And every morning it turns into “Oh, is it tomorrow already? I meant tomorrow.” Another day, another no walk in the woods.
Last night I did more than tell myself. I wrote an instruction and left it on the kitchen counter beside the cappuccino maker.
And it worked.
A favourite walk.
If the light looks a bit orange, it was. A sunny day with a grey sky and an orange sun – smoke from the wildfires raging in the interior blown over the island. Perhaps not the best day to be taking a bit of exercise outdoors, but, man, it was good to be back in the forest.
Took some pics Joe and I have often taken on this walk to send to him when I got home.
Not exactly a marathon.
But thousands of steps more than I’ve done for some time. And it didn’t feel like 10 flights of stairs, so that’s good.
Joe and Georgie were sorely missed.
