We bloody did it!

June 26, 2023

We rocked it.

Great opening night audience. Friends said we were awesome. Total strangers said they were in tears. One man I’ve never seen before came up to me and said he would be remiss if he didn’t shake my hand. Both he and his wife loved the play.

Four shows of leaving people stunned, bringing them to tears.

I told friends I ran into the next day, who’d been at opening night, that I’d been hesitating to call Ruby Red Lipstick a “play”, because it was barely 15 minutes long. The reaction was either “It was only 15 minutes long? You’re kidding!” or “Oh, my god, there was so much packed into it.” So I guess I can call it a play.

A theatre professional who attended one of the shows told me it was hard to think of anything more touching they’d ever seen on stage. Wow.

I fucking love Ben for all the work he put into becoming James. I knew last year when I started working with him on something else that he would be great as James and he was. Beyond my wildest dreams.

And the costume he hated, also went down a treat with audiences. So there.

A triumphant performance weekend. And now it’s over.

The poster can go back on the diningroom wall.

The normal picture can go back in the frame, the earrings I never wear anymore can go back in the box.

And I never have to put that grey wig on again.

Thank heavens my friend Catherine is here visiting or I would have the worst case of PPB (Post Performance Blues).

Instead I am going to go for a beach walk with her to check in with the starfish.
