Company coming!
Blimey, it’s going to be like Grand Central Station here next month. Okay, that’s a serious exaggeration, but it is going to feel a bit that way. Not one, but two visitors in June.
First my dear friend Krys arrives next Friday. She’s been here, at a minimum, every other year for many years. Haven’t seen her since before Covid. And this will be her first flight.
Then, the third weekend of June (the performance weekend), another dear friend, Catherine, is coming for a visit. It’s a very long drive, rather than a flight for her and, bless the woman, she has undertaken it a couple of times since 2020, but it still feels like a long time.
Well, this is all very exciting, but – yikes! – preparations do need to be made. Can’t remember the last time the guest suite was used. Sheets washed, check, towels washed, check. Now a thorough clean.
And the garden does look a mess. Borrowed Joe’s weed whacker and took care of that and a few other things yesterday. Looking good and will look even better when I get the cushions on the garden swing.
Krys, who loves gardening and has an ever so slightly proprietary attitude towards my garden (fair enough – she and her husband did build the first raised bed for me 10 years ago), said I should make sure there are still things to do when she gets here. No worries on that front. There is still plenty to do.
Beans (yay, the seeds in the two-year-old packet of my favourite variety were not past it) and peas are coming out. There are flowers and the first actual tomato on one of the cherry tomato plants. Despite poor results for the past few years, I have once again optimistically acquired to courgette plants. But two thirds of the main raised bed have yet to be planted and the berry frames are pretty empty, so things to do.
The prospect is very cheering. Walks and talks and dinners and laughter with two of my favourite people on the planet. Bring it on!
But first I need to go downstairs and clean the guest bathroom
Woo, hoo!
